Do we need uniforms?
Uniforms make a team look nice but for Fall Ball it is not necessary to have everyone in a uniform.

When do you do practices?
That is up to the individual teams, but most teams do not practice because for them Fall Ball is an introduction to softball or they joined to for the fun and to stay fit during the off-season.

How Competitive is Fall Ball?
Fall Ball is not meant to be a competitive season. But there are always some that just cannot let go of their competitive nature and just have a good time. We hope that those with an extreme competitive nature can learn to tone that behavior down enough so ALL players can have a good time playing the game. If you're one of those with a highly competitive nature and cannot play just for 'fun' you might want to 'sit out' the Fall Ball season and wait for our regular season.

Won't having Umpires add a competitive edge to the game?
We don't think so. You see, although umpires may be at the games they are all in training. This doesn't mean that their calls are any less valid or that you can challenge their calls even if you might think the call was bad. Remember to keep a cool head and tell your self this is only for fun. I would hate to have to ask a player to leave because they make the game uncomfortable for everyone.

Is Pick Up playing allowed?
Yes. Pick up playing is allowed. In fact we encourage teams to pick-up other registered Fall Ball players if they are short players at game time. And there is no limit to how many times a person can be a pick up player.

What is Pick Up Playing?
Pick-up playing is when a registered Fall Ball player is asked to play for a team other than there own because that team is short players at game time. If you¹re the sort of player that likes to get in a lot of playing time you could make yourself available as a pick-up player for every game scheduled on game day.

How do I get on a team?
The Fall Ball Committee will create the teams so there is an even distribution of women and men with beginning, intermediated and advanced skill levels on each team. And on Saturday, September 8th there will be a Fall Ball meeting at noon on Kimbell field #1 where everyone will find out what team they are playing on and meet their team members for the first time.

What are the Game Rules?
In our first season we attempted to structure Fall Ball around co-ed rules but players felt the rules were too complicated so this season we will use regular season softball rules and use the larger size softball for all the games. The most important rule is to a good time playing the game. But if you need some specifics here are a few softball rules.

A brief list of some of the rules

  • In-Field Fly Rule will apply
  • No bunting allowed
  • No stealing bases. You have to 'tag up'
  • No player may argue with an umpire, EVER. Fall Ball is not about winning so there is no reason to argue a call.
  • No more than 12 players in the batting order and no more than 10 players on the field.
  • A minimum of 9 players is required for your team to take the field and not forfeit a game (Remember any registered Fall Ball player can be picked-up so your team doesn't play short players).
